My experience
Indonesia is where I have spent the most time after Thailand. Bali comes first: I arrived in 2022, lived there in 2023 and returned in 2024. In Bali I stayed in Kuta and travelled north towards Buleleng to find quiet waterfalls.
In 2024 I explored the country more broadly: Lombok, Flores and Komodo, Mount Bromo and other parts of Java, plus the islands of Thailand next door. Bali is mostly Hindu while most of Indonesia is Muslim, which changes the culture, food and daily rhythm from island to island.
Two lessons that apply everywhere: wear a helmet on a scooter, and respect small offerings and sacred places.
